What if we pray the will of God over our lives instead of our own?

Let’s be honest, praying God’s will is scary because oftentimes His will does not match our own. We fear that if we pray for God’s will, then we are permitting Him to not answer the desires that we are so desperately longing for. Our prayers reveal who and what we worship. Praying your own will worships you. Praying God’s will worships Him. Who is being glorified through the prayers you are praying?

Earthly lens prayers say, “Lord, give me ___.”

Eternal lens prayers say, “Lord, make me __. “

Live your life so convinced of the sovereignty of God that you pray boldly for God’s will to come to pass even if it doesn’t look like yours. The prayers you pray reveal what you believe about God. Jesus modeled how we are to pray. In a moment of utter desperation knowing that the cross was just up ahead, He asked His Father to take the cup from Him if it was at all possible, yet He said, “Not my will but Your will be done.” The cup did not pass from Jesus. God’s will was done and He received the glory. Lay your desires at Jesus’ feet but pray that your desires would be aligned to His. Maturing in Christ is deeply desiring God’s will over your own because you are so confident that He who promised is faithful. Praying God’s will may not change our circumstances but it changes us in the process. “God, your will is better and it is what I desire above all else. Even in the crushing and the pressing, being conformed to Your image is what I’m seeking after most.”
